Busy busy busy…

Needless to say,  I have been beyond busy lately. Between schoolwork, the Olympics-which I was not in Vancouver for- the trip, and then other obligations, such as the wedding, I have been tied up this past month.

I will admit that it is sort of nice to have a lot to do, rather then nothing at all, however, I would greatly enjoy some time to work on some of my own things. You know, like, my book. It’s so close to being done, I just need to do edits…and yet, there is no time for it at the moment.

As mentioned, I went on a trip during the Olympics, to get away from Vancouver. Spent some time in Ontario, visiting family, and then for a week in Cuba, Varadero, to be precise. I have a plethora of photos on my camera, which is not on me, which I will post with a full disclosure of the trip, and some of the interesting things about visiting 3rd world countries.

In the fun World of Warcraft area….nothing.  To be honest, I cancelled my account. I just don’t have the time to play at the moment. I am hoping to reactivate my account between semesters though, and spend some quality time raiding.

I’ve been working a bit on another short story, and, with luck, I will be able to throw it up some time this week. Fingers crossed.

I’ll have more later, but hopefully not TOO much later.

Holidays & stuff

Happy Holidays to everyone! I hope that your holiday-whichever you choose to celebrate- was fun and happy.

I myself went with my almost husband to go see Avatar 3D. There was WAY more people there then I had expected! Our show sold out, as did the one before and after.

If you plan on seeing this movie, I highly suggest the 3d version. I’ve seen it both ways (we downloaded it and watched it on the laptop) and big screen and 3d was the way to go. The movie was fantastic small, but seeing it big was mind blowing. What makes this movie stand out is how seamlessly the 3d is integrated into the movie. Its so well done that, by the end of the movie, the most amazing thing is how much you DIDN’T notice the 3d. You just fell into the world, without even noticing.

I finished my book (!!), or at least the first draft. For some reason I thought it was a great idea to write it out on paper, so now I have to type it out and begin edits. I already know that its too short, so I have some scenes plotted out in my head that will add to both the flow and the plot. I’m excited to get them in. I conned my almost husband into typing it out for me because 1. I’m a slow typer and 2. he wants to get better at typing on his laptop. I just need him to do it. Preferably before school starts, in a week or so.

Clarity of Night

As I mentioned on my last posting, I entered a writing contest over at A Clarity of Night . There are a lot of quality stories in the contest, which makes me super happy that I only have to rate top 5, not actually pick a winner.

So, that all said,  I wrote more of the story, and would like to share it, for those who read my story and wanted more.  Sounds a little redundant, doesn’t it? Whateve’s.

For those of you who DIDN’T go over to the contest, and read the entries, firstly, shame on you! I even posted a link under Scribbles. I highly suggest you read that first, before you continue after the break.

That might be all I have for now, seeing as all I’ve done lately is write, and WoW. (on that note, OS25 was good times, Naxx proved to be long, but a blast, and, likely, the best PUG I have ever had).

2.1 Distractions

I have been away from my computer lately. Perhaps that is not entirely true, since I HAVE managed to get my druid to 67…but, WoW aside, I haven’t been at my computer.
Shocking isn’t it?

One of the most distracting things in the world-personally speaking, of course-is a good book. If I have a book in front of me that’s well written, engaging and well thought out, you might as well just not bother. I won’t respond, and-if I do-it won’t end well.

The books that caught my fancy this week was the Chronicles of Elantra by Michelle Sagara, also known as Michelle West.

The books, of which Cast in Shadows is the first, surround a girl, named Kaylin Neya, who happens to be a Hawk, which is this worlds-Elantra- form of detective and investigators. The books follow her though a rather small time frame (a few months, I believe) and chronicle her adventures and thoughts and escapades.

Sounds typical, does it not?

It does, but these books are anything but typical. Well thought out, well planned and executed reading, with humor, wit and outrage.

Its supposedly a romance, but, I have yet to find much of that.

Great fantasy and crime solving, however, are in great abundance. Great writing, great story, fantastic author and one of the best fantasy books I have read in a long while.
