This is Sparta!

Or, maybe it isn’t. Nonetheless, it could be, in that there will be a mass amount of changes happening over the next few weeks. I THINK I am getting a layout change, and there will be a new feature or two that I shall be implementing.

I’m not entirely sure how long this change will last, or what all it will entail, but I have some ideas and, now that I have dropped a course, I have some time to actually spend on this site.

In other news, I will NOT be going to Emerald City comiccon. Sad, I know, but it just doesn’t work out for scheduling this year. Also, in all reality, there was only 1 or 2 panels that I wanted to go to, the rest seemed sort of meh.

I’m looking into the scheduling for this year’s PAX however, as well as the Vancouver Sci-Fi and Fantasy con, in October.

I also bought a fancy new beautiful laptop. Uber sexy. And light. it also means that I will have some stellar graphics for Warcraft, when I get my account reactivated. I want to do that this weekend, but I still need to load wow on the new comp. The only downside of my new baby is that it has no optical drive, so I will have to use my 1 free downloadable copy. Hopefully, it won’t take too long.

So, expect some fun changes. I’m excited about them!

Busy busy busy…

Needless to say,  I have been beyond busy lately. Between schoolwork, the Olympics-which I was not in Vancouver for- the trip, and then other obligations, such as the wedding, I have been tied up this past month.

I will admit that it is sort of nice to have a lot to do, rather then nothing at all, however, I would greatly enjoy some time to work on some of my own things. You know, like, my book. It’s so close to being done, I just need to do edits…and yet, there is no time for it at the moment.

As mentioned, I went on a trip during the Olympics, to get away from Vancouver. Spent some time in Ontario, visiting family, and then for a week in Cuba, Varadero, to be precise. I have a plethora of photos on my camera, which is not on me, which I will post with a full disclosure of the trip, and some of the interesting things about visiting 3rd world countries.

In the fun World of Warcraft area….nothing.  To be honest, I cancelled my account. I just don’t have the time to play at the moment. I am hoping to reactivate my account between semesters though, and spend some quality time raiding.

I’ve been working a bit on another short story, and, with luck, I will be able to throw it up some time this week. Fingers crossed.

I’ll have more later, but hopefully not TOO much later.

It finally happened

I finally caved, and I signed up for Twitter. It feels like hell just got a touch colder, and yet, I don’t regret it. Yet.

Want to follow me? http://twitter.com/Anteela

Why Anteela? Well, all the other names I typically go by were all taken. That’s one thing. The other is that my newly 80 Death knight is named Anteela. She’s undead and adorable. Got a few epic pieces, from ToC, but still needs some work before I can be ready for Icecrown.

Right, Blizz finally announced Icecrown Citadel patch, and, I must say, it looks sick.  I’m excited to finally take on the Lich King. Though, I can’t help but wonder if we shall actually get to DEFEAT him. Perhaps there IS some sort of redemption for him, but I am leaning towards the not on that one.

Why am I not playing right now? It’s National Novel Writing month. I’m not actually participating, however, I am taking this time to work on my first draft and, hopefully, finish it. It’s been a long time coming, but the light is finally visible at the end of the tunnel.

Let me assure you, writing a whole novel is NOT fucking easy. Some people are under the impression that anyone can write, and, frankly, this simply isn’t true. Especially for those writer lucky enough to do that for a living. Most authors-published or not-have day jobs, and write on the side.

That’s to say nothing of the actual publishing process itself, which is just as time consuming and involved as the writing process.

3.1-Modelling tips

I have made the decision to give up modelling. Not that it wasn’t fun, or rewarding in its own way, but I don’t feel it’s something that I want to do anymore.

That said, there has been a great many number of things that I have learned, and am quite willing to pass on.

On Photographers-

there are a LOT of creeps out there. I mean, loads. Scary, creepy guys who just want to look at your junk, then get off on it later.

That said, BE CAREFUL! Get references from other models. Never give out your phone number, or your home address. Keep that sort of thing personal. Also, make sure that any photographer is totally cool with you bringing a friend to the first few shoots. If they aren’t, don’t meet him. He’s a creep.

Keep things professional-don’t become friends with your photographers. It will generally end badly. My one exception is Julia, who is, without a doubt one of the most talented photographers I have ever had the chance to work with. She’s also one of the raddest chicks around.

On Makeup

If you think it’s too bright, too theatrical when you look in the mirror, think again. Likely, its too light, and won’t show up on the camera, once you get some decent lighting on it. More is always good. Concealer, foundation and lipstick are mandatory. You may think you have great skin, and I have no doubt you do, but…trust me on this one.

On Posing

If whatever pose you are doing FEELS comfortable, it won’t look pretty, or dynamic. Ideally, if you can stretch before a shoot, or the morning of, do some yoga. Your body, and your photographer, will thank you for it. Remember to arch your back. Also, looking at the camera is good about 60% of the time. Looking away, or to the side can lead to more dynamic and emotional photos.

General

Make sure you negotiate payments/TFC BEFORE the shoot. If you’re getting paid, make sure you know how much, what way, and for how long. If you are doing TFP, make sure you have a set number of prints you will receive. Both photographers and models always like to screw around with each other on this matter, and, frankly, its a damn shame.

If you had  bad experience with a photographer, make sure other models know about this, so the same things don’t happen over and over again.
